Foshan Taijji Quan Council was originally founded in June, 1993 by a group of Taiji Quan Masters, Mr. Zeng Kun, Mr. Ou Zhao-guang, Mr. Zhang Zhi-chun, Mr. Chen Nian-en and Mr. Wu Hong-zhang, and it was merged into administration under Foshan Martial Art Association in 1998.
Foshan Taiji Quan Council is aimed at carrying forward Chinese Martial Art and popularizing Taiji Quan. Throughout the great effort of the past six terms of council administration, the members have been developing from the initial 108 to more than 2000 now. 74 training clubs have been founded separately in Chanchegn District, Nanhai District, Shunde District, Sanshui District and GAoming Distric. By far, 1290 terms of training classes have been held, with more than 40,000 lovers of Taiji Quan enrolling in the training.
The council has a team of over 70 talented coaches who have been offering their effort to popularize Taijji Quan in mass, such as training beginners and discovering potential practitioners. There is also a performance team consisting of around 100 members, which periodically stage Taiji Quan performances and take part in various public shows, such as the joint performance of Guangdong, Hongkong and Macao periodically held in Zhuhai City, the Opening Ceremony of the 5th Guangdong Provincial Sports Games in 2001, the opening ceremony of National Female Football Tournament 2002, the First Sino-Japan Body Mechanics Exchange Show in 2002, every opening ceremony of International Dragon Boat Racing held in Foshan, the First Guangdong Mass Body-Building Exercises Games in 2006.
Since its establishment, Foshan Taiji Quan Council has been insisting on its pursuing of development and popularization of Taiji Quan. In September, 2007, it organized 3984 members to take part in the Opening Ceremony of Foshan Tourism Culture Festival. The council also devotes itself into community commonweal activities. In 2003, more than 5000 RMB were raised for Eastern China flood. In 2005, more than 10,000 RMB were raised for the help to tsunami in the Indian Ocean. In May 2008, a total sum of more than 70,000 RMB from all the members were donated to the victims of earthquake in Sichuan Province. All the efforts and donations are adequately confirmed and praised by the concerned authorities.
Foshan Taiji Quan Council is determined to take innovational spirit for greater achievements in the future.
